Welcome to Arts Alive 2019!

Mole Valley Arts Alive is an inclusive Arts Festival with national appeal, taking place each year in October.

It comprises 90+ events running all across the Mole Valley district of the beautiful Surrey countryside, in towns and villages including Ashtead, Leatherhead and Dorking.

The Festival is a month-long celebration of music, literature, theatre, comedy, modern and traditional crafting, film and performance, with something for everyone. We are currently in our 23rd year, and are the largest festival of the Creative and Performing Arts in the South East of England.

Many of our event organisers give event goers the chance to ‘have a go’ themselves, others just to watch and enjoy.  Events vary from a workshop on writing psychological thrillers, lunchtime concerts from thrilling new musicians, live screenings from The Royal Opera House and theatre experiences specifically aimed at young children.

Each annual festival has a Launch Event and a Finale Evening, which alternate between Leatherhead and Dorking.  2020’s celebration launch will be on Saturday 19th September in Dorking.

2019 saw our biggest festival to date, with 93 events condensed into six weeks, to bring the festival closer into line with Edinburgh and to create a bigger festival buzz.

It featured a jam-packed line-up of live music, poetry recitals and workshops, drama productions, dance performances, stand-up, children’s creative workshops, art exhibitions and much more.  Our dates for 2020 will be 19 September – 7 November 2019, with most events in the month of October, and many are either free or affordable to attend.

See our ‘Launch and Finale Events‘ page for details of our Festival Launch Celebration in Leatherhead High Street on Saturday 21 September between 10am – 1pm, alongside the town’s Medieval festival.

Arts Alive is organised by the Arts Alive Committee, a group of volunteers and the Arts Development Officer at Mole Valley District Council who are passionate about the arts.  If you want to know more or are interested in joining us, please contact arts.dev@molevalley.gov.uk.
