Description
As fresh from her Edinburgh Fringe debut as a seafood stick at the back of a Sainsbury’s freezer, Jacky Power is back with more poetry about the messiness of being human.
With her signature mantra of “I have a poem for that,” Jacky’s got you covered. Following her debut collection “Stop the World I Want to Get Off” (shortlisted for an Independent Authors Award), she’s serving up another helping of therapeutic wisdom disguised as completely accessible poetry.
This one-woman show is basically group therapy, but with better rhymes and nobody making you share your feelings in a circle. Jacky takes you from peak wobbliness – those moments when you can’t tell if you’re coming or going – to finding the stuff that actually stops you face-planting through life.
Her poems tackle everything from parenting fails to misogyny in the media, from trying to be the “best version of yourself” to realising you are actually rather fond of mediocrity. Readers of her first collection call her work “warm, compassionate and completely accessible,” saying it makes them feel “understood” and “in safe hands.” They describe “laughing out loud” at some poems while “crying into my cushion” at others, all while experiencing the “deep wisdom running through the collection.”
Jacky, who features regularly on BBC Upload and gave the Edinburgh Festival a go back in 2022, brings her credentials as The Therapeutic Poet to create something that’s part comedy show, part gentle emotional unpicking, and wholly honest about the beautiful disaster that is modern life.
