Art History Lectures (with a difference) – Jessica Saraga presents a talk on Lowry

Live event or show

Description

L S Lowry claimed he wasn’t an artist, ‘just someone who paints’. He painted the industrial landscape he knew again and again. But although his subjects were repetitive, his approach was unique. We can immediately identify his signature scenes of urban life. In this lecture, we look for the origins of his distinctive personal style. How did this full time rent collector so singularly encapsulate the essence of the last century’s manufacturing north?
